SPORTS CLUB AND CHILDREN'S FITNESS

Building healthy muscles, engaging in cardiovascular exercise and burning calories is all part of healthy children's physical development.  The NHS recommendation is that children and young people aged 5 to 18 years old should:

 

  • Aim for an average of at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intense physical activity a day across the week.

  • Take part in a variety of types and intensities of physical activity across the week to develop movement skills, muscles and bones.

  • Reduce the time spent sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity, spread across the day.

 

As a Level 2 Children's Fitness Instructor and qualified Kids Boxercise instructor,  I am passionate about helping children to keep active and enjoy different forms of exercise.  I have two young children myself and find working with all age ranges extremely rewarding and great fun.  It is always a challenge to keep the sessions interesting and engaging for children, especially as their requirements and attention spans vary depending on their age and ability.

I have experience in coaching children between the ages of 6 years - 16 years.  My sessions are designed to improve physical strength through the use of bodyweight exercises and age appropriate use of weights such as dumbbells, plates and other equipment.  The focus is on challenging the body through explosive movements with exercises incorporated to strengthen the core and improve stability.

​

Exercise has so many benefits for children, and by enjoying regular exercise children can grow stronger and healthier in fun, safe environments.  Some of the benefits to participating in exercise or team sports are:

​

  • Building self esteem.

  • Creating strong relationships between adults and peers.

  • Develop critical thinking skills and collaboration.

  • Develops character and teamwork skills.

  • Builds resilience and understanding of goal setting.

  • Helps channel emotions and frustrations in constructive ways.

  • Teaches discipline and leadership skills

Children who develop physical abilities and learn new skills feel more positive about their bodies.  Physical activity also helps children to cope with stressful situations and negative thoughts, and could have a beneficial impact upon children's mental health.

​

During Children's Mental Health Week 2022 I delivered a Boxercise session at Sirius Academy West in Hull.  The feedback from the staff and students was excellent, and I was especially touched that one of the parents took the time to contact me directly through my website to share her feedback "My daughter Megan has just attended your Boxercise session at Sirius Academy west and thoroughly enjoyed it. Megan suffers with anxiety and very low confidence and this session has really helped her. Megan came home smiling with a lot of positive attitude which is fantastic to see. We was wondering if you offer any classes similar to what you have done today which is suitable for Megan's age. Thank you for making today's activity fun and enjoyable for Megan it means a lot to see her happy".
